It was an awesome year for Secret Sister at Cleveland SDA Church. We were all blessed by our prayers warriors in church who took time in praying for each oth. Think outside of the box, don’t choose the obvious gift options. Try to mix and match ideas when possible. The leader should keep tabs on the participants. If someone doesn't hear from their Secret Sister, the leader can address the issue. Plan a Reveal Party at the end of the specified time frame, where participants reveal their Secret Sister identities. In a Secret Sisters program, women in a workplace, club or church choose a card with another member's name and place a gift or special card in a common area for their secret sister periodically throughout the year of the program.

I was brainstorming recently with a friend about ways she could break the ice with her new team at work. Her team is quite small. I knew the 4 C’s icebreaker game would be a great one for her to use!

She was also looking for a fun way to find out what kinds of things each member of her team likes.

Planning and gift-giving is a little easier if you know most of your team loves to eat Mexican or that Susie loves Twix Bars.

After thinking about it for a bit, I came up with a brand new icebreakerI call “A Few of My Favorite Things”.

Use this game to:

  • Get to know your women’s ministry team members better
  • Reveal the favorite things for each secret sister participant
  • Connect women within your Bible study or small group
  • Break the ice at a women’s ministry event
  • Uncover favorite things of your youth group members
  • Make a list of potential thank you gifts for each team member

Icebreaker: A Few of My Favorite Things

Supplies: One form per person of “A Few of My Favorite Things” (there are 4 per sheet – you’ll need to cut them in advance), pen or pencil for each person, paper bag or manila envelope for each group

Time needed: 15 minutes

Group size: 5 – 12 (divide into multiple groups if needed)

Instructions: Divide into smaller groups if needed. Distribute “A Few of My Favorite Things” form to each group member and give them just a couple of minutes to complete the form. Have them place their form inside the paper bag or envelope. Once all forms are complete, read each form and have the (small) group guess which person the form belongs to.

Notes: Even if your women’s ministry team has been together for a while, you might be surprised by the new things you discover about each other. Keep the forms or take good notes so you can use these details about your team for conversation, planning, and future gift purchases.

Have a great time getting to know your group better!
